Facts and Figures

U.S. nursing schools turned away 42,866 qualified applicants to baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs in 2006 due to an insufficient number of faculty, clinical sites, classroom space, clinical preceptors and budget constraints (source: American Association of Colleges of Nursing).
Approximately 33 percent, or 250,000, of all physicians are 55 or older and plan to start decreasing their practice within the next few years (source: American Medical Association, 2006).
